Connect a dvd player to a tv, no satellite,cable or tower just to watch movies?

I want to connect a dvd player to a tv for my granddaughter so she can watch her cartoon movies and we don't have to. It will NOT be connect to any kind of cable, satellite, or tower. There should be a simple way to do this, I just can't figure it out because I get frustrated and give up. Help!!
